naturalist interpretation
public speaking
nonprofits
recreation and tourism
We work to individualize the internship as much as possible by looking at your prior experience, skill set and goals. Our staff will work with you to find the best fit!
Areas of Interest & Need
Avian Care
Learn what is required to care for our resident eagles and perform daily husbandry tasks. Daily husbandry includes cleaning the eagle enclosure, food preparation, perch maintenance, and enrichment for the resident eagles.
Education
Help our staff develop educational resources that align to Minnesota and Wisconsin K-12 curriculum standards.
Fishing on the Refuge
Gain skills in project management and hands-on environmental education. This summer program offers young people the chance to learn about responsible angling and connecting with the outdoors on the Upper Mississippi Wildlife and Fish Refuge.
Golden Eagle Survey
Assist with the Golden Eagle Survey during winter months and participate in bird surveys, coordinate survey volunteers, and data entry.
Interpreter
Learn about Bald and Golden Eagles, develop naturalist interpretation skills, and prepare and present a live eagle program for the public.
All interns have the opportunity to learn about a variety of aspects of a non-profit business, including marketing, fundraising, and customer service. Students with a specific interest in these areas are welcome to inquire about internship experiences specific to any of these areas.
Internships at the National Eagle Center are unpaid.
Limited housing is available on site. Many interns have worked with their universities to receive college credit.
